When I first immigrated in 2001 and began attending church, the only people I knew were a couple of families I had known back in Korea. At that time, I often felt a sense of envy toward families who had many relatives at church.
Now, 24 years later, our family has grown from the original four to seven, and including our in-laws who also live in Canada, we have become a family of ten.
My heartfelt dream is that our children will, if possible, have many children of their own, and that each new generation will continue to grow in faith. I hope our family will faithfully carry out the mission God commanded in Genesis 1:28: “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air…,” living out that purpose from generation to generation.
처음 이민을 온 2001년, 교회를 다니기 시작했을 때 내가 아는 사람이라고는 고향 한국에서 알고 지내던 두어 가족이 전부였다. 그 시절에는 교회 안에 친척이 많은 가정들이 참 부럽게 느껴지곤 했다.
이민 24년이 지난 지금, 우리 가족은 처음 네 명에서 시작해 일곱 명으로 늘었고, 사돈댁까지 포함하면 캐나다에 거주하는 가족만 열 명이 되었다.
내가 품고 있는 진정한 꿈은 우리 자녀들이 가능하면 많은 자녀를 두고, 그 자녀들이 또 다음 세대를 이어 믿음 안에서 건강하게 자라가는 것이다. 하나님께서 창세기 1장 28절에서 명령하신 “생육하고 번성하여 땅에 충만하라. 땅을 정복하라. 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와….”와 같은 사명을 잘 감당하며 살아가는 가정이 되기를 바란다.
