For over four decades, I have kept a diary—not as a hobby, but as a way of thinking, remembering, and growing. What began in 1980 as a simple habit became a lifelong discipline that now spans 100 volumes, each reflecting a different facet of my journey: personal reflections, technical insights, cultural transitions, and spiritual questions.
I was 38 when I left Korea after 13 years in corporate life and immigrated to Canada. Since then, I’ve lived and worked across four countries—Korea, Canada, Philippines, and the United States—as an engineer, mentor, and communicator. My diaries have been my compass through every shift: career changes, cultural adaptation, leadership challenges, and inner transformation.
This blog series—and eventually, this book—is not just about journaling. It’s about how consistent reflection can shape a life, how writing can bridge cultures, and how memory becomes legacy. I invite you to walk with me through the pages of these 100 journals, one story at a time.
서문: 100권의 일기로 써 내려간 삶
나는 40년이 넘는 세월 동안 일기를 써왔다. 단순한 취미가 아니라, 사고하고 기억하며 성장하기 위한 방식이었다. 1980년에 시작된 작은 습관은 이제 100권에 이르는 방대한 기록으로 자리 잡았다. 그 속에는 개인적인 성찰, 기술적 통찰, 문화적 전환, 영적인 질문 등 내 삶의 다양한 단면이 담겨 있다.
나는 38세에 한국에서 13년간의 직장 생활을 마치고 캐나다로 이민을 떠났다. 그 후 한국, 캐나다, 필리핀, 미국 등 네 나라에서 엔지니어, 멘토, 커뮤니케이터로 살아왔다. 일기는 그 모든 변화의 순간마다 나의 나침반이 되어 주었다. 커리어의 전환, 문화 적응, 리더십의 도전, 내면의 변화를 헤쳐 나가는 과정에서 늘 글쓰기가 길을 밝혀 주었다.
