My Diary of 38 Years
Since joining Daewoo Engineering in 1987, I have written in my diary every single day—with the exception of a few weeks when I was not working.
The beginning of this lifelong record traces back to my preparatory year, when I unexpectedly received a small hand diary from my father.
나의 다이어리 38년
1987년 대우엔지니어링에 입사한 이후 지금까지 (일부 일하지 않던 시기 몇 주를 제외 하고는) 하루도 빠지지 않고 써오고 있는 내 다이어리.
입사전 재수시절 우연히 아버님으로 부터 받게된 손 다이어리가 기록의 시작이다.
Some ask why, in this digital age, I still cling to paper—so hard to search, so fragile to preserve.
Yet the diary I now use (the third from the right in the photo) is marked #38-66, meaning the 38th year, the 66th volume.
The notebooks kept before my employment in 1988, along with various functional journals, are not included in this numbering.
어떤 이는 디지털 시대에 검색이 뒤떨어지고 보관성도 나쁜 종이를 왜 아직 고집을 하는지 묻기도 한다.
현재 쓰고 있는 (사진 우측 끝에서 세 번째) 다이어리는 #38-67이며 38년 차, 일련번호 67을 의미한다.
좌측 88년 입사 전에 기록한 수첩과 각종 기능별 노트들은 일련 번호에 포함되지 않는다.

사실 다이어리의 출발은 1980년도,
In truth, the diary’s origin lies in 1980, during my preparatory year.
Six volumes remain from those early days—1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, and 1987. (1983 and 1986 have been lost or hidden away,
unseen for more than three decades.)
Within these books are eight years of life: from preparatory study to university, military service, returning to school, and finally employment.
..재수 시절부터…1980, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1987 이렇게 여섯 권이 보관되어 있고 (1983, 1986은 분실 또는 어디 쳐 박혔는지 35~38년 째 모습을 드러내지 않고 있슴).
여긴 재수시절부터 대학시절, 방위시절, 복학후 취직까지 전체 8년간의 기록이 저장되어있다.
Functional Diaries
Separate from the daily series (1980–1987 hand diaries, and 1988–2025 continuous daily records), there exist functional diaries devoted to specific themes:
sketches, travel notes, programming, websites, immigration preparation, Father School, church administration, and Rodem Tree Publishing.
These thematic diaries, independent of the daily record, will be introduced one by one on separate pages
기능별 다이어리
이 노트들은 주로 1980~1987년 까지의 손 다이어리와 1988~2025까지 매일 일상을 적은 다이어리 시리즈와는 별개로, 스케치, 여행 기록, 프로그래밍, 홈페이지, 이민 준비, 아버지 학교, 교회 행정, 로뎀나무 출판 등의 주제로 일기 형식의 다어이리와는 독립되게 쓰여졌다. 이 기능 별 다이어리는 별도 페이지에서 하나씩 다루어 보겠다.
