Our First Home in Ranchland – A Monumental Beginning The townhouse we rented in Ranchland was far more than just a place to live. At about 850 square feet, it offered two bedrooms and one bathroom upstairs, a kitchen and living room on the main floor, and extra space in the basement.
Coming from an apartment in Korea with an actual living space of only 330 square feet, the difference was extraordinary. Suddenly, we had more than double the space, and even a small private yard. This was not merely a change in housing—it was a monumental home for our family, marking the beginning of our life in Canada. It became a symbol of hope and happiness, and we captured those memories in photographs to cherish forever.
Ranchland의 첫 집 – 우리 가족의 기념비적인 시작 캐나다에서 처음 살았던 Ranchland의 타운하우스는 단순한 렌트하우스가 아니었습니다. 약 850 평방피트 규모의 그 집은 2층에 두 개의 방과 하나의 화장실, 1층에 주방과 거실, 그리고 지하 공간까지 갖추고 있었습니다.
한국에서 실제 9평(약 330 평방피트) 아파트에 살다가 이곳으로 옮겨오니, 공간은 두 배 이상 넓어졌고 작은 마당까지 생겼습니다. 그 변화는 단순한 생활의 확장이 아니라, 새로운 나라에서 우리 가족이 뿌리를 내리는 기념비적인 순간이었습니다. 그 집은 우리에게 단순한 거처가 아니라, 희망과 행복의 상징이었고 사진 속에 그 기억을 고스란히 담아 두었습니다.

Our Second Home in Canada – A House of Firsts
The second home we lived in Canada brought us many “firsts.” It was our first owned house, not a rental. There, we raised our first pet, bought our first brand-new car, and welcomed nearly all of our extended family from Korea—everyone except my eldest sister.
Yet, as our family grew, the limitation of having only three bedrooms eventually led us to move to a larger house. After living there for twelve memorable years, we left with a sense of bittersweet regret. This home was more than just a dwelling; it was a stage where our family experienced growth, joy, and countless beginnings. I hope to share more of those stories in greater depth.
우리 가족의 두 번째 집 – ‘처음’의 연속 캐나다에서 두 번째로 살게 된 이 집은 우리 가족에게 여러 가지 ‘처음’을 선물해 주었습니다. 무엇보다도 첫 번째 자가 주택이었고, 그곳에서 우리는 처음으로 동물을 키우며 가족의 울타리를 넓혀 갔습니다. 또 처음으로 새 차를 구입했고, 고향 식구들이 큰누나를 제외하고 모두 모여 함께 시간을 보낸 것도 이 집에서였습니다.
그러나 세 식구가 늘어난 상황에서 방이 세 개뿐이라는 한계는 결국 더 큰 집으로 옮겨야 하는 이유가 되었습니다. 그렇게 12년이라는 긴 시간을 함께한 뒤, 아쉬움을 안고 이사를 해야 했습니다. 이 집은 단순한 공간이 아니라, 우리 가족의 성장과 새로운 시작을 담은 무대였기에 그곳에서 일어난 많은 이야기를 앞으로 더 깊이 풀어내고자 합니다.

The Third Home – A House of Challenges and Blessings
Our current home is the third house we have lived in Canada, and it has been a place of many challenges and changes. Shortly after moving in, when our church faced a shortage of space, we hosted several large gatherings here. During those times, one neighbor filed a complaint, leading to an inspection and photographs being taken. On another occasion, a visitor accidentally drove over that neighbor’s backyard lawn, and while trying to fix the damage, I was shouted at.
Over the 11 years we have lived here, nearly six of them were spent abroad in the Philippines and the United States before returning. Yet this house has not only been a place of trials—it has also been a place of joy. It is the home from which Jeong-eun and Sang-jun were married, and it is the home that carries the quiet expectation that, when their children are born, we will help care for our grandchildren. In that sense, this is truly a house of future blessings.
세 번째 집 – 도전과 변화, 그리고 축복의 집
살고 있는 이 집은 캐나다에서 우리 가족의 세 번째 집으로, 많은 도전과 변화를 함께한 공간입니다. 이사 온 직후, 교회 공간 부족으로 어려움을 겪을 때 몇 차례 대규모 집회를 우리 집에서 열기도 했습니다. 그 과정에서 한 이웃이 진정을 넣어 실사가 나오고 사진을 찍어가는 일도 있었고, 또 어떤 분이 차를 돌리다 그 이웃의 뒷마당 잔디를 밟아 훼손된 것을 치워주려는 순간, 오히려 고함을 듣는 일도 있었습니다.
이 집에서 산 11년 동안 무려 6년 가까이를 필리핀과 미국에서 보내며 돌아와야 했던 긴 여정도 있었습니다. 하지만 이 집은 단순한 도전의 공간만은 아니었습니다. 정은이와 상준이가 시집·장가를 떠난 집이기도 하고, 앞으로 그들의 자녀가 태어나면 우리에게 손주들을 돌봐주기를 기대하는 미래의 축복의 집이기도 합니다.
