Until recently, I had been keeping all my flight records in an Excel file. After pausing for a while, I’ve started organizing them again. These records don’t carry any particular meaning; they are simply a continuation of my habit of documenting. It is less about a clear purpose and more about my affection for keeping records.
Another thing is that I always choose a window seat when booking a flight. Before Google Maps or Google Earth existed, it was the only chance to observe the landscape from above. That’s why I began taking photos and videos during takeoff and landing, and over time, I’ve built quite a collection.
Looking down at the clouds from above feels soft and warm. Even when the outside temperature drops to –50 or –60 degrees, the view evokes the memory of a cozy cotton blanket. These photos, along with the videos of takeoffs and landings, are woven together into my record.
얼마 전까지 모든 비행기 탑승 기록을 엑셀 파일로 정리해 오다가 한동안 중단했었는데, 다시 정리를 시작했다. 이 기록들은 특별한 의미를 담기보다는 단순히 정리 습관의 연속이다. 뚜렷한 목적보다는 기록 자체에 대한 애정으로 이어지는 행위다.
또 하나, 나는 항상 비행기를 예약할 때 창가 자리를 고른다. 구글맵이나 구글 어스가 없던 시절, 하늘에서 땅의 지형을 관찰할 수 있는 유일한 기회였기 때문이다. 그래서 이륙과 착륙 순간마다 사진과 영상을 찍기 시작했고, 어느새 제법 많은 기록이 쌓였다.
구름을 위에서 내려다보는 느낌은 참으로 폭신하고 따뜻하다. 창밖 기온이 영하 50~60도에 이르러도, 눈에 보이는 풍경은 따뜻한 솜이불 같은 추억을 불러일으킨다. 이런 사진들과 이륙·착륙 순간의 영상들을 엮어 하나의 기록으로 남긴다.
